Tip 1 - WHAT IS A BRAND: WHAT IS YOUR STORY?

Why is it critical to have a Brand? Why is your Brand inclusive of your customer, your menu, and your community? When launching a new cafe or re-launching an existing cafe, a strong Brand Story will connect you with your customer, and connect your customer with your Brand.

Tip 2 - WHO IS YOUR CUSTOMER?

You are creating a new cafe with a wonderful menu, drinks and atmosphere. And, your goal is to attract a high level of customer traffic on a consistent basis. Before you go too far with your project, research and define your customer. Who is your ideal customer?

Tip 3 - IDENTITY: EVERYTHING A CUSTOMER SEES, TOUCHES, HEARS, & TASTES – IS WHO YOU ARE.

Identity is different than your brand. In a brick and mortar concept such as a cafe, restaurant or wine bar, identity is the visual, tactile, and sensory aspects of your brand.

Tip 4 – CREATE — LAYOUT YOUR SPACE, BUDGET AND SCHEDULE

Think of creating a plan at this time as space planning to provide you a good sense of space size, flow, equipment layout, and locational attributes that you will need to create a sound business plan, gather construction costs, understand your infrastructure needs (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and create a reasonable schedule for opening.

Tip 5 - PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE — ALIGNING THE FEEL OF YOUR SPACE WITH YOUR BRAND

Now that you have the language of your brand, your space layout, and all of your research complete, we can integrate the experience into the physical space. We define a dynamik© experience as a sustainable, delectable, workable and memorable experience designed for humans, desks, dogs, menus, and mannequins. Dynamik likes to have fun and be all inclusive in our experience planning.

Tip 6 - PLAN

Now that you have your brand, space plans, and researched data regarding your new café, you can create a thorough business and marketing plan. The written business and marketing plans of your restaurant allows you to communicate the vision, the goals, the mission, the Performa projections, the research, and the strong brand that you will be conveying to customers.

Tip 7 - LOCATION, LEASE & LUCK

Your location is the physical creation of your experience. The exterior, the pedestrian entry experience of walking, busing, or driving to the space, as well as the architectural character and details, are all important physical features. In addition, co-tenancy to like-minded businesses is very important to analyze.

Tip 8 - PERMITTING ESSENTIALS: PREVENTING NASTY SURPRISES

Permitting is completed through your local State, County, and Local jurisdictions. Before you start any business, it is best to consult with an attorney and CPA on the legal entity that you want to create – i.e. Corporation, LLC, or Sole Proprietorship. Then, your attorney can assist with all state and local licensing and filings or many states have great online tools.

Tip 9 - OPERATIONS: DESIGNING THE CUSTOMER AND STAFF EXPERIENCE

What is the plan to greet your customer? What is the plan to keep your seating and FOH looking fresh, organized, and clean? When is your customer most likely to visit, High times and low times? Why do your customers want to keep coming back? Will you reward loyal customers? A seamless flow between the company manual, vision, mission statements will make your life easier, provide staff with support tools, and also uphold your brand.

Tip 10 - CONSTRUCTION: TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Before building, review construction start date, final construction budgeting, and actual construction time with the landlord, contractor, and consultant. Specialty materials, furniture, signage, lighting - it all adds up and if not ordered ahead of time, could affect your construction schedule. Work out your bugs and complete all loose ends before having your Grand Opening.
